THE CREATIVE POWER OF CHANGE
I didn’t paint or draw or write for years and years. Literally the day after my break-up after a relationship of 15 years, I picked up my brush, pencil and pen again. I went through a very rough period where my whole life and perspective of life changed. Everything turned upside down and inside out. Drawing, painting and writing gave me different ways of releasing my emotions and dealing with all the changes. My perception of reality changed and with it my creativity started to explode.
THE CREATIVE POWER OF PLAY
I first started experimenting with pencil-drawings of famous black & white portret photographs (among others of Anton Corbijn), which helped me to develop my own (very) detailed drawing-style. My acryl-paintings were mostly figurines in different emotional states and postures in the beginning, and later on more Poparty.

I’ve worked in the book business for about 15 years as a marketeer and as a publisher. On December 2018 I decided to start my own company UPPER PLAYGROUND.NL to be able to focus only on projects where I can fully use my creativity and projects that give me energy. And to have more time for my work as an artist. A few months later I started to experiment with spraypaint on paper and canvas.
THE CREATIVE POWER OF ART
I’ve always been fascinated by streetart, I fotograph them all over the world, and I collect paintings and Urban Vinyl Art from (upcoming) streetartists. Besides streetart and urban art, I’m mostly influenced by Popart, Japanese Superflat, manga and tattoo-art.
I design stencils (sjablonen) for my spraypaintings in acrylpaint and Posca marker. After that I’m experimenting with the design for about a month with spraypaint en acrylpaint.

And I still draw portrets, which is always a very long proces. It requires an immense focus and an intense concentration. But the wonder… of creating!! When the face of the person I’m drawing seems to come out of the paper and the soul suddenly is in.

My drawing of David Bowie
I finished this pencildrawing of David Bowie in November 2019. It took me about two months to draw it. Crazy enough, during the the months that I was drawing, I suddenly saw the same photograph everywhere on billboards in Amsterdam.
